1975-2000 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF QUALITY SUPPORT AND SERVICEFounded in January, 1975, by Welford Bruce Jr. and Millard Driscoll, Basic Electric Sales is focused to meet the need for quality products with application engineering for the industrial and O.E.M. markets. Application engineering is that process of application specific assistance, which ensures that the customer obtains the best product, material, and process to produce the desired results.
Basic is an authorized stocking distributor for major manufacturers including Square D, Telemecanique, General Electric, Bussmann, IDEC, SSAC, and Holophane. Local inventory includes basic electrical components from fuses to starters to programmable controllers stocked to meet customers’ control and power needs. We work with industrial manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers in Virginia to assist their engineers, plant managers, and plant electricians in solving problems, and applying the products we sell. This close working relationship instills confidence in our organization and products. Our services are offered in conjunction with the sale of our products, and limited to not conflict with design engineers who provide these services in greater breadth and depth.
Welford Bruce formed the distributorship in 1975, after ten years in the wholesale electrical business, and serving as an Army Signal Corps Officer for several years. Millard Driscoll left the firm during a merger in 1978. Welford Bruce dissolved the merger, and Beverly Bruce became the Secretary of the corporation. Beverly became the office manager with over five (5) years prior experience managing distribution offices.
Basic Electric has repeatedly led the market in new products and technology to grow sales. Our Customers expect us to bring them the latest improvements, which fit their needs. Basic was first to stock and introduce to our market, Plug-in relays, I.E.C. motor control with class 10 protection, solid state timers, solid-state three-phase power monitors, and compact P.L.C.’s. Recent major projects have included P.L.C. controls and start-up in Puerto Rico; P.L.C. interface and sensors for expanded product handling at Coca Cola Bottling, Richmond, Virginia; intrinsically safe systems and engineering assistance for the start-up of the new Ethyl Corp. facility in Richmond, Virginia; CE rated control systems for AMF Bowing equipment in Germany’ and components for equipment exported to China, Japan, South America, and Saudi Arabia. Basic is currently the electrical supplier for the Whiteoak Semiconductor facility. Our close involvement with our customers has enabled Basic to provide timely and pertinent information on products and new technologies to aid our customer in accomplishing their mission, and remaining competitive in a world market.
While our primary market is central Virginia, we look at a global market through our O.E.M.’s, and we continue to expand business with new and existing accounts, new products and technologies.
